Hello everyone,
my name is Jade and I am from South Australia. My first ever pet was a beautiful Albino Dwarf Lop buck called Pinky. Unfortunately he passed away 6 years ago and I am missing rabbits so much. It was only when I cuddled my friend's bunnies the other day that I realized how much I actually missed them and wanted them again!
I am hoping to receive permission from my parents to adopt another bunny when I am ready. I have began a very small amount of research when I stumbled upon this website.
I have decided on adopting a single buck because a) my parents would slaughter me if I had two b)I would be able to give him more attention along with many cuddles and kisses
He will be both an indoor/outdoor rabbit but mainly indoor. He will live in a large cage that will be opened from 7am to 10pm for him to hop around and enjoy life in my room which will be full of boxes, tunnels, dig boxes, etc. I will have my room 'rabbit proofed' by removing all wires, chords and any other hazards. My friend has apparently litter trained her rabbits so I am hoping to be able to do the same if possible. If no I'm happy to vacuum and scrub my floor clean when needed and lay newspaper down I will have him harnessed trained for daily outside play time where he can hop around, eat grass, dig, etc. The harness is just precautionary so I don't lose him. Mum doesn't want any rabbit runs or pens in the yard so harness it is!
He will be my snuggle bum; with me spending most of my time with him while I study, etc. I am allergic to most animals with fur due to sensitive skin (Ruined my dream of ferrets!) but I didn't have a single reaction when cuddling and playing with bunnies for 3 hours It will great to have a fluffy animal with me again without breaking out in a horrendous rash.
I am unsure of what breed to get at this point in time. I don't want a giant breed but I don't want a dwarf breed...a medium sized breed would suit me best. So far my favorite breeds are Angora (English and German), Beveren (Not sure if available in Aus.), Jersey Wooley and Swiss Fox. If I had to choose a dwarf breed it would be Netherlands dwarf But I'm not to fussy so I will take what I can get although I have my heart set on an Angora however but I also have my heart prepared for disappointment if I can't find any from a reliable breeder. I understand they require special care because of their thick fur but it would be my first choice in rabbit as they are so cool! If anyone can recommend SA rabbit breeders that would be awesome
I look forward to meeting everyone and learning as much as I can about rabbits and if anything I have said is wrong PLEASE correct me!
