Hi. I am brand new to this forum. In fact, I just googled rabbit forums 10 minutes ago.
I need help to save my bunny's life.
My 4 yo miniature lop, Jack, is an indoor rabbit. His hutch is in our living area and he used to come out and run along the couch with us of an evening and insist I sit and have breakfast with him in the mornings. He's toilet trained to the point where he won't even poop outside. Over the last 18 months or so he has been doing huge runny, sludgy poops all over his 2 story hutch, while still doing his normal marbles in his litter. And it's getting worse. Nothing changed when he started this. Absolutely nothing. But we've tried all we can think of to stop it. The vet said normally they eat these as they come out, rather than leave it. Not with my boy. We've tried cutting him off from the top deck so he's stuck with his food at one end and litter at the other as the vet said they don't like going to the toilet where they eat. He still does it. We used to only need to clean his hutch once a week as he was so clean. It's now daily. I also have to bathe him every couple of days as it all sticks to his fur. We tried clipping around his bottom so it can't get tangled, worming him and giving him more hay and less pellets to eat. Still doing it.
My house stinks as I can't keep up with cleaning him and the hutch, and he is becoming neglected as the time I have for him, I'm spending cleaning up after him. The time he'd spend with us on the couch of a night is now on a separate chair with a towel while he dries after I've washed his bottom. I now also have a new baby, so I can't have him doing this - and remember, he's been doing this for at least 18 months, so it's not because of bub.
Please help. If he were to go outside, he'd fret. I don't know anyone who would put in the time to wash him, so if I were to give him away, he would get an infection for sure. So I'm worried he may need to be put down. The thought has me crying myself to sleep at night. I'm desperate!
