Hi everyone!
I have just brought home the newest additions to my little family! Lola and Cocoa, 8 month old mini lop sisters. We spent a few hours with them before deciding to buy them. I could tell straight away that they have beautiful natures. Lola is cheeky and active while I think Cocoa may be the cuddly one. They are very timid though. Cocoa more so. Unfortunatley The previous owners didn't have the time to invest in them. They have 3 young boys under the age of 4 who had unserpervised play time with them in the backyard. In the short time I was there they were poked, chased, ears pulled and picked up awkwardly.
I don't work and have 1 very responsible 5yr old girl. She's very eager to learn how to care for her Rabbits properly. These are my first bunnies so I am learning too. I'm doing a lot of reading but would love some tips on how to make them feel safe and comfortable with us!
So far I have told my daughter that I'm the only one aloud to pick them up. I give her a cuddle of each but she must be sitting down with me close by. She has to walk when they are out and not make loud noises. We also just sit on the grass and let them come to us, they just have a quick sniff and run off. Each night I have been cuddling each one for a little while I watch TV. Am I on the right path?
Also they have had no training at all so I'm starting with getting them to come using treats. The dad use to chase them into the hutch at night using a broom. I tried it the first night and felt really cruel. Do you think it's too soon for training? Do I gain trust first or do you think this will help?
I've also put a litter tray in the hutch. Would it be good to get another for outside? ATM they don't go inside unless being held. Once toilet trained they' will!
Hope I'm on the right path, your feedback would be much appreciated!
