hullo there..
am new here, obviously.. am trying to research an idea for housing my kids bunnies..
was wondering if it's possible and/or wise to try to create a kind of natural enclosure for the bunnies to be outdoors? the yard is too large and insecure for them to just have the run of the place...
my thoughts are to create a lidded, raised garden bed kind of construction from some kind of sleepers, at least a couple metres to each side, filled with maybe 60cm worth of soil, then roll some turf over the surface and finally add some dung beetles to the enclosure to control the poop situation.
so far i've not looked into sourcing any materials (or the beetles, for that matter), i'm just trying to find out if the concept is sound?
i realise there will be issues regarding stopping the bunnies from ingesting any treated timber, or just plain chewing their way to freedom. the idea would be for this enclosure to be only for use during the nicer weather, but maybe for weeks at a stretch..
so i guess my question is, is this a viable concept? Or would the bunnies destroy the place in short order and turn the soil into a stinking pit of mud & faeces? Has anyone here seen anything similar done? (links would be greatly appreciated ;o)
the bunnies in questions are 2 males nearly a year old, identified by the vet as probably being Silver Fox rabbits. they've spent the winter indoors, they're both quite lively and sociable and but don't really appreciate the polished timber floorboards... they do enjoy sitting in the front window sill and seeing what's going on outside though...
cheers,
