I really have to share my story about my beloved mopsi. She was a beautiful only 7 month old Netherland dwarf rabbit. We got her from a pet store when she was only 3 weeks old. She was our family rabbit and the kids and me loved her. She was a beautiful soul with so much character. In the daytime when I was home she was allowed to run free in the backyard and digging up holes and living a happy life. In the Nights we always took her inside. She also had a big hutch in the garden. On Friday I noticed that she was not active as usual but I thought it is because it is too hot. She spent the day in the garage hiding under a chair. On Saturday I I noticed that her left eye was shut and she was unable to open it. There was a crust on it. I prepared a saline solution with 1 cup of warm water and 1 teaspoon of salt and wiped her eye. When she opened it I saw that it looked milky. I kept wiping her and hopes she would get better. She was very weak but still eating. Monday morning I decided to bring her to our vet and lifted her up when i noticed also her right eye looked half milky. I put her into the pet carrier where only a soft blanket was in. When my daughter looked at her she cried and said look mum her eye is bleeding. Her right eye was bleeding heavily. It was literally dropping out of her eye. I rushed her to the vet and they said that she had lost her right eye. I don’t know what happened. She stayed in hospital and the vet gave her 3 different antibiotics because they said she has a bad infection. On Tuesday I spoke to the vet and he said that she has gotten worse and will loose both her eyes. I have to consider to put her down. I waited until Wednesday and they continued treatment for her but it didn’t help. We had to put her down on Wednesday. It was heartbreaking. I’m still heartbroken. Just a few days ago I had a healthy rabbit and now she is dead. The vet couldn’t tell me what caused her to lose her right eye. He said the left eye was about to break as well. Has anyone had similar experiences? I’m so sad. I just want to know what happened to her.
