Just so you guys know.. does dont go 'on heat' like dogs do. They are whats called 'induced ovulators' which means they release eggs after mating. There are certain times when does are more relunctant to breed, and if you look at the does genitals, its when they are a very light pink-white colour. Does with pink to purple coloured genitals are more likely to allow a buck to breed. leaving them together for a few hours doesnt mean they have bred. you need to watch. they should then be separated. if you want larger litters you can rebreed in an hour or two. under no circumstances should mature, unaltered male and female rabbits be left together for a week. does have two branches to her uterus, and can become pregant in both at different times if they are left together. this results in having either premature kits, or having one set of kits, and a week or two later having another set of kits. the doe will be unable to care for them all, resulting in most dying, and even if some survive, there is a chance that the older siblings will later attack the younger ones. does should not be rebred until the kits are fully weaned 4-6 weeks old. even if your rabbit is not pregnant, she could be nesting simply in response to her hormones because there is a male around.

I thought this was the case, but I didnt want to give false information. When I bred rabbits, I would only leave them together for about 15 mins, and it was always succesful

Well you learn something new everyday, I've always left mine together for a few days at least and never had any of the problems you've descibed but if that is the case (and I'm sure you know better than me) then strike my earlier advice/ sorry to be misleading.

Great advice bunnybreeder. I put mine together for around 20 minutes and keep an eye on them. If nothing happens I separate them then try again a few hours later. Bingo!

OKIE DOKIE! i gotz a plan now!!!! i've been told to put them together 3 times: the first time she will be with the buck at 8am in the morning for an hour (to release the egg), then they will be separated for the day and they will go back together for an hour at 5pm (to fertilise the egg) then they will be separated after that hour of bunneh luvin and just to confirm the fertilisation process has taken place they will spend another hour together at 8am the next morning thennnn we wait. . . come day 18 i will take her to her appointment for an US scan to see if i have any grand kits in that furry tummy. . . . FINGERS CROSSED!!!!!!!

An ultrasound for rabbits? I just feel their tummies around day 19 and if I can feel little sausages in there I know she's preggers.
You could also try putting them together again on day 14 and if she fights the buck off it's supposed to indicate she's pg. However I have a super randy doe who will wiggle her bum at the bucks at any time.
Good luck!

Hi There
Just a tip. Your rabbits are still young and believe me although most rabbits get in right my breeding pair are hilarious. My 1.5 year old female always tries to mount my buck and my buck usually only mounts my does head.lol
They have had 3 healthy litters together and this is all you do. Gently hold your doe with her rear slightly elevated and place your buck on top. You should only need to hold the doe and the male usually gets it right. It's over in 10 seconds and you can remove the buck and do the same thing 6 hours later. Guaranteed to work every time. If you try this assisted breeding and it still doesn't work you may have s problem with either bun.
Cheers Vin
